This month’s crew member spotlight shines on Tim Mooney, who oversees the Fabrication and Purchasing departments. Tim has been involved in racing for decades, starting his career working on late models at his home track of New Smyrna Speedway in the 1990’s. After graduating high school he moved to North Carolina and traveled the ASA scene with Travis Kittleson Motorsports. From there, he got his start in NASCAR working for Billy Ballew Motorsports. He also spent time at MB2 Motorsports, Ginn Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing, Roush-Fenway Racing, and RAB Racing. Tim joined the team as one of its first employees in 2017, and has truly been a jack of all trades. He’s worn several hats while working here, from mechanic, to truck chief, to crew chief, to shop foreman, and even team cook, Mooney has done it all. He’s the unofficial mascot of Niece Motorsports! In his day-to-day role, Tim is in charge of quality control in the Fab Shop and oversees the purchasing department for new parts and equipment. Though he’s mostly ‘retired’ from traveling on the road, he will always lend a helping hand whenever he’s needed at the track. His favorite memory while at Niece Motorsports was being part of the team’s first win at Kansas Speedway in 2019. He’s an avid fisherman and enjoys having fun with the crew on and off the track.
