NASCAR San Diego Race Procedures & Information
Track Maps and Directions.
Racing on a Navel Base is an awesome new experience for our team and all of NASCAR. With that said, there is bound to be a learning curve navigating and working within this new venue. Please be patient with the team and track security as we learn our way around.
The NCTS garage is located in the green section of the track map, near Turn 1.
Visit the Track Website to find an interactive track map, along with other key information about the race weekend.
Important Information - Please Read Carefully
Since this race will take place on an active Naval Base, NASCAR has told teams that we all have to adhere to specific sets of rules outside of our normal procedures. For the most part, this will be similar to a regular race weekend. However, here are some key differences that we have been told to keep mindful of.
What do I need to carry with me while on the base?
Everyone MUST have their U.S.-issued ID or Passport on them at all times.
Real ID’s are not required to enter the base. A standard driver’s license will suffice.
Please make sure to keep these documents on your person throughout the duration of the race weekend.
Who needs to fill out a DBIDS form?
All NASCAR crew members will need to complete their DBIDS registration ASAP in order to gain access to the base. It is EXTREMELY important that you have this process completed before race weekend starts.
This includes all crew members who have Hard Cards, and all crew members who have Essential Passes.
How do I complete the DBIDS Registration Process?
Complete DBIDS Pre-Registration as soon as possible. Visit this link to proceed with registration.
If the link does not open, copy and paste into your browser
Ensure your name matches your government-issued ID
Use the following sponsor information while filling out your registration:
- Sponsor: James E. Castillo
- Email: james.e.castillo.civ@us.navy.mil
- Phone: 619-307-8521
- Site: NAVY
- Filter Site: NAVAL BASE CORONADO or NAVAL AIR STATION NORTH ISLAND.
After registering, you will receive a QR code and a six-character code. Please save or screenshot this code, as you will need to reference it in the following step.
Please the submit your access request to NASCAR via this form: Post-DBIDS Registration Information Collection – Fill out form
Once we have collected the required information, the base will proceed to conduct a thorough background check on each individual. This step ensures the safety and security of everyone attending the event.
Once you have successfully cleared the background check, NASCAR will be notified and we’ll let you know that your paper pass is ready for pick up and how it will be distributed.
You will need to have your QR code, paper pass, and a form of ID upon entry to the base. Important: The QR code alone will not grant you access to the base. A physical paper pass is required.
How do we get onto the base?
To streamline the base entry process, NASCAR has worked with the Navy to give teams a separate entry gate. This entry is called the Ocean Gate, AKA the Purple Route. Please reference the Apple Maps or Google Maps pin located above in the Parking & Directions section on this page.
Everyone will need to have their DBIDS QR code, paper pass, and a form of ID upon entry to the base.
You will receive your DBIDS paper pass once you arrive to the base.
If you have not received any notice from NASCAR regarding a background check, you are good to go. They will reach out if they find any issues.
Parking for this event is extremely limited, and annual team parking passes WILL NOT get you onto the base. Distribution of the San Diego-specific parking passes will take place next week.
Everyone will need to walk through Mags and Bags safety checkpoints to get around the footprint. This process should be fairly quick, but we suggest to be prepared for lines.
On a typical day, it only takes roughly 15 minutes to get from San Diego to the base. However, NASCAR recommends that we allow at least 45 minutes for travel due to these processes.
What items aren’t allowed on the base?
Weapons of any kind, alcohol, and controlled substances (marijuana included) are STRICTLY PROHIBITED on the base. If you get caught with any of these items, you will be subject to a felony charge. We cannot stress this enough - DO NOT BRING ANY OF THESE ITEMS!!!
Do VIP Guests have to follow similar procedures?
VIP guests do not need to submit a DBIDS registration, however, all of the other rules apply to them.
VIP guests are allowed into the NCTS garage area and fan zones, but CANNOT go into the grandstands. Those seats are reserved for military members and their families only.
If you have any family guests coming to the race, we strongly encourage them to use ride share (Uber, Lyft, etc.) to get onto the base. Parking is extremely limited, and we will not have any additional parking passes to give to them.
The base is issuing a NO-RE ENTRY POLICY for all VIP Guests and Fans, so please encourage them to stay throughout the entire day and not to leave the base for any reason. They will not be able to return if they leave the base.
For more information, please visit the official NASCAR San Diego website.
Can I invite my family/friends on race day?
Late adds are strongly discouraged due to the nature of the security protocols. If you have a guest who you would like to invite to the race, send their full name and contact information to credentials@niecemotorsports.com no later than Monday, June 15.
We will not be able to make any exceptions to this rule.
What about any other questions I may have?
Find Leighton, Paige, or Dalana if you have any other questions about the race weekend. We have been included on multiple calls with NASCAR to ensure that this weekend goes smoothly, but please keep in mind that this is the first time ever that Naval Base Coronado has been opened to the public, so there may be some issues as they work out the kinks in the race’s inaugural running.
