- Key Takeaway: Andrés Pérez de Lara and the Telcel team had a promising night go south late at Kansas Speedway. Pérez de Lara drove from 18th to 12th in stage one and held serve in the second stage. The No. 44 pit crew performed highly all night long, gaining several positions on pit road. Restarting as high as third in the final stage, Pérez de Lara displayed his pace up at the front of the field. Late in the going, however, contact from another truck resulted in a cut left-front tire. After pitting under green and losing two laps in the process, Pérez de Lara had to settle for a 24th-place finish.
- Andrés Pérez de Lara’s Post-Race Thoughts:
“It was a really solid day for us overall. We were inside the top-10 pretty much the whole race, but it was just really unfortunate. The No. 38 (Chandler Smith) just ran me over and put me into the fence and we cut a tire because of it. It’s really unfortunate because we were running good, but it is what it is. I feel like the speed we’ve shown all year is better than what the results show, but it was a really good day and we will be strong in Charlotte.”
Interviewer: What happened from your perspective with the No. 38? We didn’t see it on the broadcast in any of the angles and just saw the left-front down.
“I just learned that it wasn’t on TV. He was just trying to clear himself when I was clearly there. It’s not the first time these guys have done it. It’s really unfortunate; just really disrespectful, but it is what it is.”
Interviewer: How do you look to move forward for the rest of the year with that good run?
“I think it’s going to be good stuff to build from for the next couple of races, especially Charlotte. I feel like our mile-and-a-half stuff is really solid.”
